If you're going to buy your first modular lounge furniture set, here are some tips to follow.
Check the weight of the modular furniture's parts
Unless you are quite strong and can handle moving heavy items, it's sensible to check the weight of the moveable parts of any modular furniture sets you think might look good in your lounge. The reason for this is that if, for example, the modular sofa you purchase is heavy and its modular components weigh more than you're used to or are capable of holding, then you might find yourself reluctant to utilise the sofa's modularity feature because you don't feel strong enough to move its components. This could be an issue if you're purchasing a modular lounge set precisely because you enjoy switching up your lounge's furniture layout regularly to update its look.
In this situation, you should either look for another modular sofa whose components are lighter or alternatively, purchase a set of castor wheels for the original, heavier sofa and attach them to its base; these should make the modular parts much easier to move, even if they weigh more than you can usually carry.
Ensure your lounge can accommodate both of the modular sofa's main configurations
It's important to measure your lounge and ensure that, when you take into consideration any of its semi-permanent features that you cannot easily move (like wall-mounted bookcases), it is large enough to accommodate both of the modular sofa's main configurations (i.e. that it's big enough for the sofa when its protruding section is on the left side of the sofa and on the right.). You should do this, even if you're reasonably certain that you will keep the sofa in one particular configuration whilst it's in that lounge.
The reason for this is that if you will be living in your current home for several more years, your furniture layout preferences might change. If this happens and the modular sofa you've bought cannot fit comfortably in the lounge when it's reconfigured so its protruding section is on the opposite side to where you currently want it to be, due to it taking up too much space in this position, you might feel the need to buy a new sofa, even though you like the look of the existing one. As such, it's important to choose modular furniture which can easily fit in your lounge in all of its configured states so that you have the option of utilising its modularity in the future.
Hello. I’m Paul. I’m a house builder and in recent years, I’ve loved the trend in which indoor and outdoor areas have become blurred to make versatile living spaces. I really enjoy visiting my clients after the house is finished. In particular, I like to see the creative ways they use furniture to enhance these flexible living spaces. Surprisingly, there is no single trend in the way that these houses are furnished. Wooden, plastic and metal pieces can all be seen and people use a mix of modern, upcycled and older items. From discussions with clients, I’ve learnt a lot about different styles and suppliers of quality furniture. For others out there who are looking for furniture or simply fascinated by the incredible range on offer, I’ve started this blog to share the most interesting ideas I come across. I hope you enjoy my entries.
